  • Avid Attic location – can it be changed to another Drive?

    Hi,

I’m running Avid Media Composer 2.6.6 with a tiny tiny C: drive. Media is stored on a 3 terrabit editshare.

I’d like to change where Avid puts the Attic as I have another internal hard drive and the C: drive will run better if it’s not quite so full – Is it possible to change where Avid puts the Attic? I can’t see a setting for it.

    Please don’t suggest a new C: drive – I know it’s a solution but I can’t bear to reinstall everything when it’s working!

    Thanks in advance

    Alex

You would not have to reinstall. You can use a disk cloning application like Norton Ghost or Casper, then replace the HD with the new (larger) clone.

Best thing about such applications is that you can put a clone of a perfectly working install of your C-drive on the shelf. If something goes wrong, you can simply put in the cloned drive of the functional system and continue working (OK, you need a backup of your project files from the C-drive, but you should have those anyway).

Also, I use this method when I’m upgrading. I had 3.1.1 installed, had a clone of the system drive, then installed 3.5.4. If there’s an issue with 3.5.4, I’m back to 3.1.1 real fast.
