You can use the free Carbon Copy Cloner too. I have cloned my OSX installs with CCC with great success.

I have the exact same issue. It happens when i export and reimport AIFFs even without as much as touching it with Soundtrack. Problem lies in FCP, Quicktime or audio drivers IMO.

Try this:

1) export your timeline as AIFFs from FCP
2) re-import these AIFFs into FCP
3) place them accordingly into timeline

Is it out of sync? Mine is. Just a few frames, but unpredictable (i.e. moving those Aiffs in timeline for a fixed number of frames doesnt help)

Ditto. And it’s playing weird on me – using shuttle in FCP triggers Dock (??), jog makes FCP think Capslock is pressed. I realize this may be due to conflict with some other installed SW, though. But it happens at my home iMac too, with different SW and HW.

Thanks for your suggestion Robb, but I am a heavy keyboard user and there is just ONE free non-modifier keys on my keyboard (D) 🙂 I would love to assign this one to multiple functions. And I’m a little curious if this can even be done at all.

BTW this is why I love CC – it’s almost realtime.

Well, I guess I can do it in Motion via 3D rotation and Y scale stretching, but I would still like a cleaner solution.

FCP 7 IS a bit slower with rendering than FCP 6, but you shouldnt notice any difference in speed during editing and general work with your projects. You could check Activity Monitor (in your Utilities folder) for some rogue process taking up a lot of CPU time. Or, your drive can be dying – happened to me last year. It worked, but very slowly, turned out drive was about to die.

David, how do you go about recapturing HDV ProRes via FireWire with help of EDL? How does EDL fit into this process?

My iMac would crash (hardcore kernel panics included) all the time with clean install of 10.6., but 10.6.1 solved all stability problems for me. I can go on days with FCP 7.0.1 and Adobe CS4 without crashing.

Frame rates yes, but not frame sizes. 7D cannot shoot 720×576, only HD and 640×480.
