I think fast shutter speed may be the culprit, but it’s evenmore likely you’re just very much used to that immediacy of interlace. 50i and 25p look VERY different – 25p WILL look choppy if used in the same way as interlaced camcorder, i.e. fast swish pans and such.

I’m sorry but I own 7D in EU and PAL is definitely NOT an option. Nor is full NTSC. There is only 1080/24, 1080/25, 720/50 and 640×480.

It doesn’t matter form the disk space point of view. I do, however, doubt these files carry any useful metadata. They are just thumbnails and if I’m not mistaken, you can delete them safely. They are cluttering your folders.
Image Capture on Mac OS doesn’t even transfer them to your hard drive, and I have never seen any adverse effect.

And what if I disable frame blending in the Clip Speed panel (cmd-j)? I should get the same results as when conforming in Cinema Tools, shouldn’t I?

Is there a difference between conforming 50p to 24 or 25p in Cinema Tools and just changing the clips’ speed on FCP timeline? Tx!

I usually transcode to ProRes with MPEGStreamclip and am usually happy with the result.
Other than framerate conversion or resizing, is there any advantage to Compressor for simple batch conversion jobs?

I have a 7D and it definitely doesn’t record PAL, not in Europe anyway. It allows me to switch between 1080p, 720p and 640×480.

I have shot a doc with our 7D. Unless you really have to, don’t shoot interviews with 7D. It’s fantastic for B-roll, but any longer take (than, say, 2 minutes) WILL introduce sync issues with sound no matter what. This has been covered on various blogs. DSLR make great pictures, but we cannot expect them to behave like a all-purpose HD camera for USD1700.
