Thanks Steve, sounds good. I guess I just wanted to know if I could say, quickly alter a composition in PS whilst rendering/building a preview in AE..sounds like a go-er as long as I’m not pushing it too hard. Playing out a timeline in Premiere whilst rendering might be a bad idea I guess, but worth a try!

Last thing Steve (I promise!)…Is there anywhere I can find out if the motherboard in question is a ‘black holer’?!? It is the ASUS A8N-SLI:-

    Thanks again,

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for fast response – I *think* it’s an ASUS A8N-SLI board, will have to double check.

So, with this black hole thing – does that affect Nucleo’s use of the full 4GB? I mean, will Nucleo use what it left after the PCIe has pinched it’s share, or will Nucleo see the 4GB regardless?

Also, if Nucleo is running 3 more instnces of AE (4 AE’s running in total on a dual-core machine then?) and using up all the RAM, does that mean I wouldn’t be able to keep Photoshop & Premiere open at the same time? Or could I just keep them open, but not use them while Nucleo is working?

    Thanks for your help,
    Jim.

Digital Anarchy do a plug called Re:Sizer you could try..but to be honest pixels are pixels..you’re not going to find any more resolution than what is there in the first place!

I often have clients asking me to send someone a still from an SD commercial to be used in an A0 sized poster! Then they ask why it looks so cr@p!

March 19, 2007 at 11:17 am in reply to: Vertical shift when looped through DIGI machine?

    Hi Bob,

We don’t actually have an in-house engineer..we are a very small post-house and get independent tech guys in when something is needed in the machine room. We an in-house software/hardware PC guy, but he is not trained in the workings and cabling of the C.A.R.

I would get someone in to do this, but if it’s just a case of running my sync cable into a spare port on the house sync then I’ll do it and label it accordingly for when they are next in.

To clarify – I am not seeing any shift when going through the digiVTR from editbox>decklink, recorded output nor monitor input. I only see the shift (it is visible on monitor in Editbox AND on recorded output) when playing out to the editbox.

I only pass through the machine when outputting/capturing audio with my video, which is rare..but annoying when I do! But using the VTR seemed a better temporary option than buying a hardware SDI embed/de-embedder for several thousand. We will be overhauling the entire facility for HD soon, so I’m after a tempoary fix until then.

Sorry Bob, what is E/E mode?

TMPGEnc is a very fast and good enocder, which I use for web (MPEG-1) and DVD (MPEG-2) it has some great tools and with 2-pass VBR some very impressive results. There is a free version and also a very cheap pro version. Kicks the @ss off Encore and PPro’s encoders for me. Do a google search for it.

Is there a way in AE to assign one? you can do that in most Adobe apps to some extent..not at my workstation either. Would be useful though.

March 16, 2007 at 4:41 pm in reply to: Vertical shift when looped through DIGI machine?

I just tried capturing from Editbox to Premiere looped through the Digibeta in the same way and it doesn’t shift. When I patch it in reverse and play the timeline TO editbox via DB machine it DOES shift. Very odd. Just to be clear, i’m not performing an export to tape or anything, just dragging in a clip into the timeline and hitting spacebar..then our editor on the Quantel captures my output.

The patching is as follows: –

SDI out of Decklink > patch bay > Digibeta input > digibeta output > patch bay > editbox SDI input + analogue audio de-embedded and taken out of Digibeta into Editbox via patch bay. Then Editbox SDI out > decklink SDI input via patchbay. PHEW!

How would I go about ‘genlocking’ my Decklink then? Sorry to sound a bit dumb.
We have a house sync generator, do I just plug it into that or does it need calibrating, etc?
