June 15, 2007 at 9:00 am in reply to: Photoshop output…?

Does the Parphelia have a ‘live’ output to the broadcast monitor from photoshop then? Or is it hotkey operated like the Decklink?

If Matrox can do it, I see no reason why BMD can’t! Any BMD guys wish to comment?

Is there going to be any kind of Quicktime-based framebuffer for Photoshop CS3 extended..Seeing as it now supports video?

Some kind of interactive output via the decklink would be awesome in PS – instead of the hotkey output frame function. Is there any way to get the same kind of response in PS as you can in After Effects?(when moving layers about on canvas for instance)

June 14, 2007 at 11:39 am in reply to: Antivirus problems?

I’ve got a McAfee firewall, but this AVG antivirus is just a free version…I did wonder whether it would be temperamental. It’s all working fine know, but if there are known problems with AVG and they kick in whilst I’ve got a client sat next to me it doesn’t look good!

Will look into Norton Enterprise – cheers Harm. I know this is probably a stupid question, but are there any AV/firewall/spyware, etc. apps that are ‘certified’ by Adobe?

Any other thoughts/things to look out for people?

    Thanks.

What’s Eyeon Fusion like for text animation? I think that has pretty advanced 3D capabilities…

I do love it when people say “Flame can’t do this, Flame can’t do that”.. It makes me feel much better about being stuck with and defending my cheapish AE system!

June 13, 2007 at 10:18 am in reply to: multi-point gradient along a mask?

Thanks Dave, I was thinking of trying CC Cylinder, but I’ve a feeling I’m not going to be able to do what I want with it and I may have to pass it onto our Lightwave guy. Here’s what I need to do – if you have any suggestions that’d be great! :-

I’ve got a shot of someone sat in an armchair and the shot is slowly tracking around the subject and pulling out at the same time. The client wants some text to come out from behind the chair and flow around infront of the subject, like a kind of 3D ribbon made of text (yep that old chestnut) I was trying it with 3D stroke for a test anyway, but I’d have to find a way of replacing that with text anyhow..

I don’t think the shot will need tracking, as the text isn’t actually attached to anything, so can probably cheat it’s position. I’d usually pass off the 3D to someone else, but I just wanted to see if I could do it (fairly quickly and so it’s editble) in AE? I’ve seen various tutes on here for ribbon text, but nothing that really suits and moving object..I thought maybe expressions, but that just looks like a world of pain!

    Any ideas guys?

    Cheers.

I hear Vista is a nightmare with Pro apps like AE and been told to stay clear.

I’m going to go for Win XP64 when we upgrade, only thing is lack of drivers…does anyone know if the range has been improved for XP64 yet?

OSX – I’m astonished it has that limit..isn’t OSX a 64 bit OS these days?

Is this 32GB RAM on a 64bit OS yeah? I thought XP64 Pro could address 4GB to most apps?

June 5, 2007 at 11:49 am in reply to: Quality Text

What are you using to output to a TV? And what sort of ‘TV’ are you using? Anything going down firewire or a composite signal to a normal domestic TV is going to make type look awful.

A capture card like a Blackmagic Decklink or AJA card going component or SDI to somesort of secondhad broadcast monitor is your best bet. Either that or HMDI to a decent LCD or plasma.

Also – did you say the text is purple on black? Not a good colour combination – if it’s quite a vivid purple or reddish then a TV tube will struggle with it. Best to desaturate colours or choose different ones wherever possible.

June 4, 2007 at 12:29 pm in reply to: AE broadcast quality not good enough…

I’ve never heard of stuff being delivered for broadcast on DVCAM tape. To avoid codec-specific problems just deliver your graphics as an uncompressed file, zip it up if you need to reduce file size and then deliver to the editor on a disc as a file. To be honest he should have the finished commercial going through a legaliser before going to tape anyway. If a file-based delivery is not an option, then like Steve said – take it to a facility/post house and get them to put it through an online suite out to digibeta. It’s best if you broadcast safe the colours in your original file, but most dubs should go through a legaliser like I said anyway.

    Good luck.
