Aye, doesn’t Flame use more drive-based processing to preview, etc? As oppossed to AE using mainly RAM after the CPU? Can’t remember the details, but Autodesk stuff processes/renders data in a totally different way to AE someone was telling me..?

As for workflow – I’m pretty sure you can ingest/output from data files (cineon/frame sequences/QT) on a Linux Flame, just as well as you could in AE. Products like Xstoner and some max-t systems can totally integrate autodesk systems with PCs/Macs for networking and sharing storage. I currently ingest either from Digi via Premiere and into AE, or directly form our Editobox via SDI. Output is the same.

Antother question – how much compression does digibeta REALLY introduce?…

..We still use an old linear digibeta suite for some sport progamming (no digitising time wasted) and that still uses a VTR>VTR editing environment through a series of external DVEs and mixers – which would bring into effect LOTS of generations of recordings from one digi tape to another and I can’t really see much difference between the rushes and the final edited master tape.

Great stuff, thanks guys. I don’t use PPro2 that much, but just wanted to doublecheck.

  • Hi Mike,

In this case it’s a larger raster image (photo) that I’ve turned into a SmOb so I can scale it down, but then have the option of scaling it back up if the client changes their mind (instead of having to reimport the full sized image every time I need to change something)

The scaled down SmOb looks fine initially…it’s when I double click the thumbnail and edit contents THEN go back to my main document that it looks nasty..I’d understand if it always did it, but it’s really random!

24 hrs my @rse! I sent an email query back in April and just had 2 responses since then saying “haven’t got round to it” after repeated nagging. Sent my last one 5 days ago – NOTHING.

What’s wrong with this new driver then? And which one is it? I’ve just downloaded 6.1.2 for Windows, but shying away from installing until I’ve got enough downtime to make sure it’s not screwy. Any heads ups?

I only I/O SDI embedded audio anyway, so if I just use my stereo SPDIF output from the Decklink and put that into my soundcard input..I’d then need an SPDIF *output* to send to the speakers wouldn’t I? Don’t think I have. Oh joy!

June 18, 2007 at 8:16 am in reply to: Volume control when monitoring S/PDIF?

I have just read that this lack of volume control to my monitors is as a result of the BMD drivers not being able to access Windows volume control….is there a fix in the pipeline for this?

    Hi Eric, oh well..

On the subject of audio – do you know how to control the monitoring volume in Premiere without affecting the sequence’s output volume? I have just bought some S/PDIF active speakers to monitor audio out of my Decklink card – they only have level controls on the back of the cabs and I don’t use a hardware mixer…is there a way to alter their volume via software, other than adjusting the master vol slider in Premiere?

Likewise in Audition – I know can’t control my speaker volume via Windows audio mixer and Audition doesn’t seem to have any monitor level control either?…

    Cheers.
