Is there any way to record JUST audio straight to a WAV file in PP2? I’ve tried using audio only in the capture panel, but it saves to an AVI with no video, meaning I have to re-render that file in the timeline out to a WAV for use in Audition or similar. Can be time consuming if it’s a long clip..

I heard something about recording audio only via the audio mixer, but I’m only hooked up for SDI digital audio through my Decklink card and it won’t let me select that as the source. There also seems to be a lack of machine control when using the Audio mixer…Am I missing something?

    Thanks.

Matrox (Axio) records WAV files in addition to the embedded audio when capturing in Premiere. I think you’re doing the best you can. I have lashed my sound card into my audio chain to record with Audition.

    Hi Eric, oh well..

On the subject of audio – do you know how to control the monitoring volume in Premiere without affecting the sequence’s output volume? I have just bought some S/PDIF active speakers to monitor audio out of my Decklink card – they only have level controls on the back of the cabs and I don’t use a hardware mixer…is there a way to alter their volume via software, other than adjusting the master vol slider in Premiere?

Likewise in Audition – I know can’t control my speaker volume via Windows audio mixer and Audition doesn’t seem to have any monitor level control either?…

    Cheers.

Ah, yes. The downside of a capture card with integrated audio. If only BMD would write their drivers so the monitor out would respond to the Windows volume control. I have a nice volume control built into my keyboard, but Axio works the same way. The Matrox RTX2 card uses a sound card for audio, so the Windows volume control does work, and it is very handy. Othewise, you need a mixer.

Here’s a thought: You could get a sound card with digital I/O, and split your BMD AES output. One leg would go to your deck, and the other would go to the sound card, which would give Windows control of your speaker level (speakers plugged into sound card output). That way, you would have a constant level feed to your deck. It would also give you some digital I/O for Audition.

I only I/O SDI embedded audio anyway, so if I just use my stereo SPDIF output from the Decklink and put that into my soundcard input..I’d then need an SPDIF *output* to send to the speakers wouldn’t I? Don’t think I have. Oh joy!
