    Hi all,

I just wanted to ask you PP2 users what your experiences are using Premiere whilst antivirus is running? I know I’ve read somewhere that you are best having no internet connection and no antivirus/spyware/firewall apps running on your edit machine, but in my case that’s not really an option..

I am a graphic/VFX artist and not an editor as such, but I do find myself using PP2 more and more these days for capturing/playing out to tape and the odd simple edit and so I need a system that runs fairly smoothly…but I do need constant net access for downloading gfx and using ftp sites, etc, etc.

Now I installed AVG antivirus yesterday after my McAfee ran out and almost straight away playback became erractic in PP2, so I swithced AVG off while I got the job finished. I’ve powered back up today and tried editing with AVG back ON and all seems fine?!? I’ve done a disk check on my RAID 0 drives and it’s come up fine, but I do occasionally get a warning come up on startup that my drive needs checking, but everytime it comes up fine.

All very odd – does anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps another way to check my drive is running ok? What else could be causing the problem?

Thanks – I’m a new boy round here so please be gentle!

I know a lot of people who have serious trouble with AVG. Your best bet would be to use Norton Antivirus Enterprise edition. Add GFI for spam filtering, use the routers firewall and you are pretty safe.

I’ve got a McAfee firewall, but this AVG antivirus is just a free version…I did wonder whether it would be temperamental. It’s all working fine know, but if there are known problems with AVG and they kick in whilst I’ve got a client sat next to me it doesn’t look good!

Will look into Norton Enterprise – cheers Harm. I know this is probably a stupid question, but are there any AV/firewall/spyware, etc. apps that are ‘certified’ by Adobe?

Any other thoughts/things to look out for people?

    Thanks.

The ones I mentioned are the ones I have been using for years in a networked environment and never had any problems. I often switch from editing to the internet and vice versa without any problems. Well the only problem is with Exchange Server and the greylisting we use, but putting a trusted IP adress on the white list solves that, even if the ISP is on the SORBS list or similar.

AFAIK there is no certification done by Adobe for these kind of programs. The reason I mentioned the Enterprise edition is because of the ongoing updates of virus definitions on the server and on all clients.

Thanks Harm…still doing alright..I’ll keep an eye on things and if AVG buggers things up I’ll check out Norton Enterprise.
