You can write expressions to control animation, but it isn’t an interactive environment that the user can control.

How are you selecting the clips to send to Motion?

You can edit in AE but it isn’t as easy as in FCP, Premiere, or Avid. You can slip and slide edit as well as trim clips, but you can’t ripple or roll edit. Also, each clip is on its own layer, making for VERY complex compositions.

Change the text alignment to centered in the type palette.

Nest the composition in another composition with the same settings.
Open the timing pane (between switches/modes and the timeline area).
Change the speed to -100%.

Try outputting the title from AE by choosing the Animation codec at Best quality and include both the RGB and Alpha channels (millions + colors). The Alpha channel is what will protect the text and make the background go transparent when superimposing it over the BG video in Premiere.

1. To animate a mask, the time vary stopwatch is for the MASK SHAPE property. In the Timeline window twirl open the layer you are drawing the mask on, twirl open the MASKS, twirl open MASK 1 and you will see the mask shape property. Don’t try to understand what the values represent, just turn on the watch on the first frame and be sure to select the same mask to change on each new frame. In the bottom right of the Composition window you should see a Target: Mask 1 button. If it is Target: None you will draw a new mask when you use the pen tool. Don’t–be sure to target the original mask.

2. Sounds like your supervisor will never appreciate you. Don’t worry about it. Just keep your mouth shut (bite your tongue if necessary), get the work done to the best of your ability, and remind yourself that you are using this job to get your AE chops together and build a good demo reel on someone else’s dime.

Could you have a bad memory chip? Happened to me once, drove me nuts till I replaced it. They can go bad over time.
