Tracy,
Draw a shape using the drawing (not masking) tools and drag that shape into the Image Mask well.
If the alpha channel covers the entire image area at full opacity, there will be no masking.

Sounds like the marquee tool options have been set to a fixed size. Select the Marquee tool and check its settings in the Option window.

I have saved actions as droplets onto which you drag and drop files to process in Photoshop. You might still get the mismatch window if the default is set to a different color space, so why not set the preference in PS to match the current embedded value and then run the action?

Don’t forget to consider an authorized training center. A good instructor can get you and up and running a lot faster than a book or DVD and we answer questions. A good class will also enable you to get more from the books and other tutorials.

Have you tried creating an action that will do this for you and converting it into a droplet?

You might want to do some tweaking of the 2D image in Photoshop to pull off the top as a separate animatable layer and then create a middle layer that shows the back of the inside of the box once the top is opened.
The 3D rendering should take care of parallax distortions introduced by “opening” it once the top of the box has been correctly mapped to its layer.

Create the box top in a 3D layer and use the X, Y and Z rotations as necessary. Before you rotate though be sure to use the Pan Behind tool to move the anchor point to the edge that will be the point of rotation.

When you import a file into AE it’s really just creating a link to tell AE where to find the file and its contents–you’re not actually making a copy of it in AE.
I suggest importing multiple-layer PS files as compositions so that each layer is brought in individually and laid out collectively in various compositions. You can still use the layers in other compositions and even delete the original file composition if you choose.

January 30, 2006 at 9:35 pm in reply to: Creating A Glass Like Material Surface in AE 6.5If you’re not too concerned about seeing through the “glass floor” then you can easily create the reflection by mirroring the object, soften it with a little blur, reduce its opacity, and give it a little perspective (Basic3D) effect.
