Also, any files that are in the Media tab are cached and taking up RAM. If you imported a file but later decided not to use it, remove it from the Media tab to improve performance. Don’t remove anything that is being used in any layer though!

Make sure that you select the Adjust Control Points tool in the toolbox. Keep pressing the TAB key until it comes up, or select it from the icon list.

Many folks working in 3D will render out 60 fps progressive and then convert to 30 interlaced for broadcast (in NTSCland).

I’ve found most clients to be slower than Motion. ;^)

Seriously, if you’ve got beefy hardware (especially a high end video card) Motion runs very speedily for most designs. Add animated replicators or particle systems, or change to float space at full res and you can easily bring it to its knees.

When I added a Radeon x800 to my dual G5 it behaved like a spanking new machine with Motion and 3D in After Effects.

Am looking forward to seeing what the Whiz Kids will enable with 16-lane PCIe busses running workstation-class video cards…

Are the layers with content visible when you save the file?

Are you importing the files with single layers, layers intact or merged?

As I understand it, the audio capabilities in Motion are rather limited as it is pretty much a separate app that is included so you can hear audio while animating. To see how it is separate, put an audio clip in your project and start playing it. Next bring up the audio editor in the timing pane. There is a separate playhead and play button. When the playhead is halfway through the minitimeline click on the play button in the audio editor. 2 copies should now be playing out of sync.

Any of you lurking codeslingers care to chime in?

Have you considered doing it with transitions instead of distortion keyframes?

It’s usually better to scale the image size up several times in smaller values than in one big jump. Change the image size units to % and increase in 110-115% percent steps.

Are you talking about compositing images as separate elements, or pulling back to reveal a new image of, say , a famous person or landmark?

Do you want the alpha channel to include both people or a separate alpha channel for each?
