Select the text object, press the F1 key to open Properties in the Inspector, and twirl open the Scale parameter to see the x and y coordinates and keyframe the x scale separately.

The trick is to scale it on the X-axis only. Keyframe from 100% to -100% and back. Leave the Y axis values alone.

The reason is that DV uses non-square pixels and AI uses square pixels.

Change the font.
Change the speed.
Add motion blur.
Add a pixel or two of vertical directional blur.

When an application is exited, it saves a preference file that records user preferences and such things as recently opened files, window layout when app was closed, etc. Sometimes this file can get corrupted which results in strange and unpredictable behavior.
Where it resides depends on the AE version and operating system you are using. It’s different for OSX and Windows and for 6.5 and 7.
You can do a search for a file that includes PREFS as part of its name.

Have you tried renaming your preferences file? (I prefer to do that than delete it–renaming has the same effect, but if it doesn’t help then I can rename it back and not lose it.)

Something that can help imrpove tracking is to make the image have higher contrast (or even use the threshold effect to make it B&W) and then track the higher contrast corners of the frame. Also consider tracking just the inside corners, not both. And check for smaller than default sub-pixel resolution.

Photoshop layer styles are stored separately from the pixel content so they are usually not correctly drawn by non-Adobe apps. You should convert them by rasterizing the layer and then you should be able to select the shadow pixels normally as you would the text pixels.
