  • Selecting type to make alpha problem

I have text with a drop shadow. There is no background. I want to use this in AVID so I save it as a psd file. AVID opens it fine, but the drop shadow appears white instead of black.

If I try to use a black background and command-click the icon to select it and then generate a alpha channel, the drop shadow isn’t selected. Same if I have applied a stroke to the text.

    Suggestions will be most appreciated.

    Thanks, Mark

Apply the drop shadow in the Avid.

I’m on Symphony Nitris – it doesn’t do soft offset drop shadows.

    Thanks though.

Photoshop layer styles are stored separately from the pixel content so they are usually not correctly drawn by non-Adobe apps. You should convert them by rasterizing the layer and then you should be able to select the shadow pixels normally as you would the text pixels.
