March 6, 2012 at 1:38 pm in reply to: This is a new one.. error during rendering, any ideas?Have you made any changes to the template you are using to render with? I know that some changes I’ve made, like increasing the bit-rate too much in Sony AVC using 1280×544, it will give this error. Try rendering with a standard template that was installed by Vegas, such as “Program Stream NTSC Widescreen”.

You also can’t extend the subclip once it’s set, so maybe just use regions and then start another project and copy/paste from the regions (that’s what I do).

This has been an increasing issue recently for Wedding Film producers, mostly due to some films going viral and getting the attention of the record companies. Fortunately there are many websites that cater to the needs of small productions, whether it be for weddings or commercial use. These sites have various licenses, but generally they cost $50-$100 for either a per-year or a perpetual license. It may be more for commercial. Here are a few sites to check out:

February 20, 2012 at 7:56 pm in reply to: Resolution Independence and my golf swing videos…Steve, I believe you want to use a project of 1920×1080 and put your two 640×480 clips on two separate tracks and then resize each of these tracks using “Track Motion”. You can turn off “Lock Aspect Ratio” and enter width=640 and height=480. But you need Vegas Pro, not sure if this will work in the “basic” version you mention.

February 8, 2012 at 6:41 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas 10 Audio cutting out despite the presence of waveformsI’ve had this happen. Usually related to adding an audio effect. Seems to clear when I reboot, and sometimes fixed when I copy/paste entire project to a new project. It also only happened on my under-powered PC, and hasn’t happened on my newer/faster PC.

January 21, 2012 at 3:35 pm in reply to: External Monitor Preview Looks AWFUL (Pixellated and Blocky)Dredging this up a bit…
I have SVP10 on Win7 with NVIDIA GTX570 and two monitors. When I make the preview on the 2nd monitor to fill the screen, it actually looks worse than full-screen as secondary monitor output (not much worse, almost the same actually). So I don’t think this is a Vegas Pro issue at all, but something to do with your computer setup. I use Preview Quality of “Good (Full)” and the secondary output looks great.
As for saying that the render visual is all that matters and not the preview during the editing, well I just don’t understand that thought process. I need to see my clips in their best output while editing so I can determine focus, exposure, color, etc. Why would I be content with a preview image that doesn’t look like the final render?

Update solution: After reading the Sony forum someone suggested to set the “Use legacy disc drivers” on the Preferences/Burning tab. So I went there and it was already checked. So I unchecked it, and this fixed my problem. Weird, because on my Windows 7 laptop running the same DVDA 5.2 this option is checked and the burner is recognized.

Thanks, Steve. But it seems to be a generic plug-n-play device using Windows 7, no specific driver. I can’t seem to find one from LG.

Here’s my experience. I have a GTX-570 with 2 monitors. This card has 2 DVI ports and an HDMI. When I hook up the HDMI it seems to look worse than the DVI, so I use dual DVI output to span my desktop. I haven’t tried it, but I also suspect that the HDMI is just a clone of the DVI port for the 2nd monitor.
Instead of a 3rd monitor, I just make the Vegas setting for “Video Preview on External Monitor” be my 2nd monitor, so I get full screen full resolution on my 2nd monitor.
