Thanks for the suggestion. It was already set to the NVIDEA NVDEC setting and neither one fixes the playback lag. Maybe I’ll switch back to NVIDIA.

I understand that, and also using an SSD helps tremendously (I use one). But my question is why would v17 be worse given the exact same project on the same system? I’m happy with the performance of v16 but would like to use v17. If I knew what graphics card to “upgrade” to I would. Upgrading CPU might not be possible with my motherboard.

December 13, 2012 at 6:54 pm in reply to: Compelling reason for a 10 Pro User to install 12?

For me, I’m using AVCHD footage from the Canon 5D, and mostly do multi-cam edits. So the GPU acceleration is not only incredible, but required. Besides the recurring crashes with V11, it was so frustrating to preview 3 or 4 streams of video on the timeline that I almost made the switch to Premiere Pro. Then V12 came out and saved me from switching. There are many other usable features added since V10 that I like, just take a look at the release notes to see if they are important to you.

I would stay away from V11, V10 is OK, but V8 was much more stable, and (for me and others) V12 is much more stable than V10 or V11. If you install, be sure to get the latest build as well (sonycreativesoftware.com). Yes, they coexist, but some have uninstalled older versions to resolve weird issues. From your project description, I’m not sure of a compelling reason except even smoother editing, but you should just try it to see. Just know that once you save a V12 project you will no longer be able to open in an older version.

December 13, 2012 at 4:56 pm in reply to: Vegas 12 problem opening veg file

The autorestore is a setting that Vegas see when it didn’t close properly, and I believe it will only show up when you open Vegas without a project. So you can load other projects by double-clicking the .veg files, then one day open Vegas without a .veg file and the autorestore will come up.

In hindsight I would make sequential saves of your project each day (or more often) so you have a more recent backup to fall on.

As for fixing your problem, you can try a few things. First, try to change the Vegas settings, like disable RAM preview and GPU acceleration. Then try booting Windows in safe-mode and try to open the project (not sure this will work at all). Then try this: rename the folder where your event assets are and open the project, and for each file it asks for, tell it but don’t say to use that new folder for the remaining, you do this one-by-one. This is time-consuming, but it may tell you what asset it causing the problem. Then you can not load that asset next time and see if you go further. Sorry for your troubles, good luck!

Sounds like a frame-rate mismatch issue.

Mike, thanks for the verification. I just submitted this to Sony.

November 27, 2012 at 9:44 pm in reply to: Free DVDA 6 Upgrade from DVDA 5! 🙂

Is this any different than v5.2? The “What’s New” simply states this:

    – Support for burning stereoscopic 3D video to Blu-ray Disc.
    – Interactive tutorials.

That’s not much to warrant a new version number.

I did comment that I use #5, it’s not really different than #3, just a different codec. I thought you answered your own question with #2 as it is only 16Mbps, but it’s fine also, but why not just use #5 with the higher bitrate.

I have used option 3 & 5, mostly 3. Option 1 will cause DVDA to re-render as this is not BDR, and option 4 is not HD, it is for 720×480 standard definition.
