  • Compelling reason for a 10 Pro User to install 12?

Posted by Brad Leigh on December 13, 2012 at 5:31 pm

    Hello!
I am a Vegas pro 10 user that has just started a new project.
I owned 11 but never installed, and just grabbed to 12 upgrade for $99.
Will 10 and 12 co exist? I believe I’ve seen mention that they don’t on this forum. My current project is mostly cuts, dissolves, and a lot of titles. But relatively simple and a little over an hour in length. A mix of HD footage, and HD animation. I’m just not looking for a hassle right now. 10 works smoothly on my i7 2600 3.4 GHZ.
Any features that would make life easier on this type of project?
Will they co-exist. Or should I just count my blessings and stick with 10.
    Thanks
    brad

I would stay away from V11, V10 is OK, but V8 was much more stable, and (for me and others) V12 is much more stable than V10 or V11. If you install, be sure to get the latest build as well (sonycreativesoftware.com). Yes, they coexist, but some have uninstalled older versions to resolve weird issues. From your project description, I’m not sure of a compelling reason except even smoother editing, but you should just try it to see. Just know that once you save a V12 project you will no longer be able to open in an older version.

Jim, can you elaborate on “…even smoother editing”?

For me, I’m using AVCHD footage from the Canon 5D, and mostly do multi-cam edits. So the GPU acceleration is not only incredible, but required. Besides the recurring crashes with V11, it was so frustrating to preview 3 or 4 streams of video on the timeline that I almost made the switch to Premiere Pro. Then V12 came out and saved me from switching. There are many other usable features added since V10 that I like, just take a look at the release notes to see if they are important to you.

The coexist issue you are mentioning Brad, is having both
Vegas 11 and Vegas 12 installed together, there is no issue
    with having Vegas 10 installed.
I too never touched version 11.
Even though you are not having any issues with 10, its
still wise to grab a copy of Vegas 12 now if you can,
    for several reasons.

I’m using V10 and V12 on the same machine with no issues. I’m doing weekly 1/2 hour television with lower thirds, titles and a few fades.

Of course, no issues at all having those two installed.
