  • Sony Vegas 10 Audio cutting out despite the presence of waveforms

Posted by Gordon Graham on February 6, 2012 at 4:14 pm

I use Sony Vegas 10 at work and I’ve been having a specific audio issue come up from time to time: e.g. I edit my video, it’s all ready on the timeline, the audio peaks are built, I can see the waveforms and everything, and yet for some reason sometimes the audio for a certain, random section of the overall video just doesn’t play. It may have played during a previous editing session, but now all of a sudden just doesn’t. All the audio before it and after it plays, and the audio I’m using is all from the same single audio recording. The only fix I have found is to completely restart my computer. Assistance SVP.

Is the audio cutout present when its finished rendered?
Make sure you are also using Vegas 10.0e built.

Yes, once rendered the cut out is there. Also I am just on Vegas 10.0, there is no “e”. Where would I acquire this magical “e” that hopefully solves all problems?

Gordon, are you using Vegas Pro or Vegas Movie Studio?

Sorry, Sony Vegas Pro 10.0 (64 bit).

Have you tried rendering just the audio. E.g., render to .wav. Test the wav in another player (vlc, wmp, etc.). Put the rendered file back into your project and mute the original audio tracks. Playback the problem area(s). I would be surprised if the rendered wav has a missing gap; I’ve never seen this happen.

Thanks Tyson, I’ll give it a shot next time it happens.

Hmmm…I think I have experienced your problem:

Under preferences for Audio Device, DESELECT Enable Track Buffering

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

Thanks you all. I’ll try all those things and see how I do.

I’ve had this happen. Usually related to adding an audio effect. Seems to clear when I reboot, and sometimes fixed when I copy/paste entire project to a new project. It also only happened on my under-powered PC, and hasn’t happened on my newer/faster PC.
