Is there a good online tutorial that demonstrates the basics of using the Protype Titler? It’s the most unintuitive aspect of Vegas Pro, so I never use it but would like to.

It’s always best to keep things simple by copying just the section you want to sync using just the clips pertaining to that sync. I typically have multiple locations with multiple cameras and external audio. So I cut/paste what I need to a new project, run PluralEyes, then copy/paste back to the original project with the sync’ed clips. I have noticed that PluralEyes can be inconsistent, working great with some clips and totally not figuring out other clips. I always use sequential and “try realy hard”.

Yes, the included Sony “Wave Hammer Surround”. Choose to bypass the compressor then in the Volume Maximizer tab set the Output Level to the desired -dB value. See screenshots below:

This could simply be that your project settings for this source is not set correctly. In your project go to “File”, “Properties” and on the top right corner there is a button with he tool tip that reads “Match Media Settings”. Click this then browse to your wmv file source and select it. This will set the project to your source. Hopefully your stutters will go away.

I don’t know anything about that Samsung Flashcam u10, but a Google search says it is HD footage. It’s most likely a difficult codec to edit, so as suggested, converting it would help. Also, your specs say you only have 1GB of RAM. I would increase your RAM by installing 4GB, however XP will only recognize up to 3GB. This should also help.

This is most likely due to the FRAPS codec more than anything else. I currently have Vegas Pro 10.0c running on an old system with a Quad-Core 2.4GHz and only 3GB RAM running on XP (so I can’t add more RAM, actually have 4 installed, XP can only see 3). My system runs fine. I would love a faster system, but it’s OK for now.

If your secondary drives are internal, this should have no performance impact. While I do get better performance when editing on source that is on one of my internal drives, I often use USB 2.0 external drives. A little more sluggish, especially when scrubbing h.264 1920×1080 files, but still not a major problem.

Most of my projects are over 100GB. I just timed loading a project that has 120GB of h.264 1920×1080 files. It took 20 seconds to load, ready to edit, and then another 20 seconds to draw all the timeline thumbnails in the background. This is a multi-cam project with 4 cams, each with audio, plus a few other audio tracks.

Except for a few crashes due to old 3rd party plugins, Vegas Pro 10 is remarkable. The only problem I really have is sometimes it can take many seconds, even a minute, to play the timeline. Weird.

You can do this using the built-in “Color Curves”.

  • Have you tried MPEG Streamclip (https://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-win.html) or Cineform’s “Neo Scene”? I tried MPEG Streamclip a while ago and didn’t like it, but liked Neo Scene. If you are using Vegas Pro 10 you might not actually need to transcode at all. I no longer use Cineform now that I am using v10.

Another cool trick is to be able to have these clips as buttons that the user can play one at a time and also have a button above them that is a “Play All”. Here’s how:

    – Let’s say you have three clips, names “C1”, “C2” & “C3”.
    – Drag all three to your Project Overview. Then drag all three to the menu, now you have three buttons that play each individually.
    – Now again drag C1 to the Project Overview. Then rename this asset to “C1-All”. Do the same for the other two, renaming “C2-All” and “C3-All”, respectively.
    – Now double-click “C1-All” and set the “End Action” attribute to play “C2-All”. Do the same for “C2-All” setting it to play “C3-All” as an end action.
    – Now add a new empty button labeled “Play All” and set it’s Action/Destination to play “C1-All”.

Now you will have a Play All button as well as separate buttons for each clip. The best part of this is that DVDA will not actually add the duplicated video clips to the project, leaving the project size pretty much the same. It simply uses the new name with new attributes while still using the same actual asset.

December 30, 2010 at 1:19 pm in reply to: Major problem- Event/Pan and Crop

In addition to screen resolution, it may also be on the 2nd monitor if you’ve configured dual monitors. I place some of these screens on my 2nd monitor by dragging them. If you still have dual monitors set and you don’t have the 2nd monitor on, those windows will seem “hidden” because you can’t see the 2nd monitor’s display. Changing the screen layout will have no effect on the pan/crop docked window if it was dragged to the 2nd monitor. That is, once dragged to monitor #2 it will stay there regardless of layout presets. However, all windows on the 2nd monitor should revert to the single monitor once reconfigured to a single monitor system. Have you recently changed your monitor settings?
