Regarding your desire to offline. FCP handles DVCPROHD just as easily as it does DV. So, for most people offlining has become an arcane strategy for post production. By onlining from the beginning you are saving a lot of time and effort.Also, if I’m not mistaken the HDX900 is more on par with the HPX2000 not the HPX500. You might want to look into the tech differences between the HPX2000 and HPX500. It really depends on what you want to do with the camera.

64gig cards are coming out in the fall. That’s your two hours at 1080p or 1080i. A heck of a lot more than that at 720pn24.

I could be wrong on this… and someone please correct me if I am… I don’t believe the HVX does timecode over Firewire.

That is essentially what many HVX users do. Utilizing a laptop with the proper slot allows you to offload the contents and last text files to a hard drive once the cards are full. If you have three cards available you can cycle them out without ever having to stop shooting.
The other alternative is to buy or rent a Firestore which gives you 160GB of continuous shooting. That’s about 160 minutes at 1080i. Personally I use the Firestore and prefer the ability to continue shooting throughout the day and not worry about offloading until the day is over. I also have three cards that I keep as a backup.

I too am a CalDigit user and am very satisfied. I have a pair of mirrored 3.75tb S2VRs and (knock on wood) they are running flawlessly. I have edited HDCAM and DVCPROHD without any issues. Plus the company is very responsive to support questions.
