Hello again…

So it still doesn’t seem to work properly. When I select SLEEP, the monitor turns off, and I think the fans turn off, but the light doesn’t do it’s ‘sleeping breathing’ — so I suspect that it’s not in DEEP SLEEP mode. Any ideas?

I’ve got the latest firmware for the Kona 2 and the latest drivers. I’m currently running FCP 4.5 in OS 10.4.1.

I’m trying to run two older ADC displays off this card. I already have one Apple ADC/DVI adaptor but I was hoping to avoid having to get another.

I’m trying to run two older ADC displays off this card. I already have one ADC/DVI adaptor but I was hoping to avoid having to get another. Anyone running the X800 with and ADC monitor off the ADC connector? Is it receiving power/USB/signal as it’s supposed to?

I just tried unplugging the mouse, the keyboard, the printer — anything on USB, and it still wakes as soon as it sleeps. The only other thing, at this point, is that I haven’t installed the KONA 2 software yet. Let’s see…

In your opinion, is there any great difference in the tubes themselves between the series? Sounds like you’re saying that practically, there’s not a noticeable difference.

Also, Keicol, it’s my understanding that you need the 20L5/1 model to be able to monitor true 24P.

Hi folks:

Apparently, the ‘stretching’ to 16×10 on the Dell is not a problem — there are controls for FULL SCREEN, ASPECT (which displays 16×9 with slight letterboxing) and 1:1 for pixel-to-pixel display.

That being said, accoding to Mike on HDforIndies, the display is passable in the analog component input setting, but I believe he said it’s not as good as when it’s used with the HDLink.

Apparently it’s the type of Phosphor in the CRT. I’ve seen both types of monitor used in broadcast applications, but I’m wondering if there’s a significant difference in terms of using the monitor for color correction.

Hey Graeme:

Do you do the gamma/level adjustments on the HDLink or on the new 23 CD? Apparently, there are the usual host of adjustments on the Dell monitor as well, although I don’t know whether they apply to going in over component. I would think that because this is an analog solution, that they would apply. There was some brief mention of this on the HDforIndies site.

The biggest concern I have with the Dell, is that I’m not sure whether I can get my hands on one and see it working before purchasing. Gotta call Dell and see if they have retailers in Toronto that carry the display.

Great to hear that your 23″ CD is working well for you. I’ve read numerous complaints about the ‘pink’ problem with the new 23’s on the Apple display forums, as well as elsewhere. Also, to my eye, all the 23 CDs that I’ve seen on display at various Mac stores seem to exhibit this trait — whereas the 20″ and 30″ models do not. It’s especially clear when you see them side-by-side.

It’s enough to get me thinking about the Dell 24″ — which also has component ins and can be driven by the KONA 2 component outputs.
