Oh well, if you were on AVID, you’d best transcode to DNx codec anyway, as I’ve heard AVID’s direct import (name escapes me at the moment) can be a bit funky too.

    Hey Eduardo:

I ended up biting the bullet and transcoding to ProRes proxy (80 hours of footage!), and that cleared the problem up, for the most part. For the DI, I re-linked back to the original XDCAM and output a Quicktime.

Hope this helps. Good luck finishing your feature!

Aha! I may have jumped to a conclusion suggesting CQ – although the main character directs the film, he starts off as an editor who is promoted – thus the confusion. Modern Romance looks like a fun film as well. I’ll have to check it out.

The movie was called ‘CQ’ and it was directed by Roman Coppola – yes, son of Francis Ford.

Here’s a link to it on IMDB:

May 20, 2011 at 8:27 pm in reply to: Anyone have issues after ProKit update?

    Hello:

Thanks to all for the replies, just thought I’d post a status update. After running repair permissions several times, and doing rebuilds on all the media drive catalog trees etc, the system seems to be running okay.

I figure at this point, I’ll keep working for a few more days and see if the problem reoccurs. If not, I guess I’ll just go forward without a definitive answer! And yes, all drives are mounting now – even the Hitachi 3TB. So maybe I don’t have to abandon the bigger storage solutions just yet. : > )

Thanks to all for chiming in/offering suggestions.

Anyone care to comment on second part of question, regarding mixing XDCAM HD422 with ProRes on the same timeline?

    Thanks,

And thank you Jeremy for the MOV tip. That’s going to make it identical. Perfect.

Thanks for your reply Everest. I think I’ve found a work-around. I made my own custom destination, then set the default destination in Compressor’s Preferences, and it seems to work without adding any extra to the filename!

Thank goodness. Saves me a ^%$#-load of typing!

Thanks Andrew. I’m working with the ProRes files now, system is much more stable. Still a few kinks to work out, but overall much better.

Thanks again for your advice. Very helpful.

Yeah, it’s a tricky one to diagnose. So many links in the chain. I tried not using my Matrox MX02 mini, but experienced crashes just the same. As for video cards, I upgraded to the 5870 and I don’t think the 5770 would work any better/worse regarding this issue. Probably uses the same driver…

Once I get through the next 8 hours of transcoding, I’ll be able to test and see if going ProRes solves the problem. I sure hope it does.
