Yes I want one screen showing pre and one screen showing post.Your workaround almost works, but I can’t get both to play, can I?
I don’t want to compare just one frame, I want to see them running, then perhaps pause both to analyse a frame or two, then continue playing. I turned on the trimmer’s own monitor, but I can’t get both the trimmer’s own monitor and the main preview monitor to run. Thanks for teaching me I can left-click and drag to create a section on the preview screen – it’s not what I’m seeking but yes I like that.
I don’t think you need to read the reply I just posted to Douglas, but if you wish:

I think I’m making a molehill out of a molehill – it’s not big, but it’s bigger than nothing.
I ask, in part, because a video editor whom I know personally and who will be checking out my work – he uses Final Cut Pro, and I want the workspace to be as familiar as possible for him, or at least I want to be able to produce the functionality he expects.
From what you wrote I think I may need to clarify that I wasn’t thinking so much about single-frame comparison as running-video comparison.
You ask a good question: Can I give an example of why I would need to play two videos side-by-side?
At first I thought: Don’t you ever want to show a client, or yourself, two alternatives?
Now I think it’s generally true that it’s best to watch the videos sequentially, not simultaneously.Still, seeing videos side-by-side might in some cases be a faster process, and make it easier to see differences – to compare.
Since FCP (and VirtualDub and AVIDemux and perhaps others) has dual monitor-windows, surely there is some reason for having two.

Also, you wrote:
“I find it more accurate to be able to define a specific area that I’d like to see pre/post combined.”
I only know how to display part of the frame pre, and the rest post – are you saying there is a way to display part of the frame pre and that same part of the frame post?Thank you,

February 10, 2009 at 5:02 am in reply to: Media Manager – Edit Palette – Change Number of Rows and ColumnsThe check-boxes that should appear to the left of the tag don’t appear in my Tag Tree.
Buoyed by your assertion that the Tag Tree should have the functionality of a palette, I clicked some more, and found that if I click just to the left of the tag icon, it works.
Then I found in your VASST tutorial’s preview video that your Media Manager includes check boxes in that magic space.
I don’t know why they don’t appear in mine, but it doesn’t really matter. The top of the search results window lists the words and tags applied to the search.

Do you use the Media Manager? My computer crashed today, and Windows did a NTFS FileSystem check.
When I started Vegas, I found events edges’ had the cut/angled corners they’re supposed to have. I just found the Media Manager is now not working. I don’t know what happened to the Media Manager, but it seems this reveals at least a strongly credible hypothesis:When the Media Manager is on, event edges’ are not marked by corners.
(I should have realized that is a difference between my friend’s computer and mine – she never had the Media Manager.)

February 4, 2009 at 4:43 pm in reply to: Beyond Split Screen view, Two Screen view: Input + OutputDouglas,
Split Screen lets me see the right or left half, but it can’t show me the whole frame with fx bypassed (input) AND the whole frame with fx included (output).
When I see Split Screen, I have to guess as to how the other half appears.

February 4, 2009 at 4:11 pm in reply to: Event Edges more visible by cut/folded Corners on friend’s Vegas, why not mine?In Preferences I unchecked “Enable Windows XP Theme support”, applied changes, closed Vegas, opened Vegas, and found: no change.
I also checked Preferences: Display, and found nothing there relates to this issue.
I found a work-around:
On the track header (on the left), I right-click anywhere except on an icon, and select “Expand Track Layers”. This way, each change of event is displayed on an alternating layer within the track.I’d prefer to have the way it’s supposed to be, but this is good too.
