  • Thanks Adam,
Yes I know in-point–out-point selections carry from the timeline to the trimmer, but thanks for making sure.

  • Thanks – I had not thought of Nesting projects to get markers and regions from a timeline into a trimmer. I tried it and it may meet my needs.

To get edit points to appear in the trimmer, I need to add markers at edit points. The script “Startel Markers at Media Event Start Points” does that automatically.

Nesting does of course create the “.sfap0” proxy file which I’d rather not be necessary, but I can live with that.

Hmph. When I open the nested project in the trimmer, and add markers and regions, they appear on the timeline but they cannot be saved to the media file. (“Either media file is read-only [or] markers are not supported…”)

I’m not yet sure if nesting will help with my current needs, but it has some promise. Thanks.

    I mistook ` for ‘ (back-tick for apostrophe).
Yes, Ctrl+backtick sets all to the same default height.
    And yes,
    thank you,
backtick minimizes, and backtick again restores tracks’ individual heights – even if I made edits after minimizing.

Alas, it’s still not what we surely all could use – zooming in to see details, making an edit or two, then restoring tracks to their individual heights.

P.S. To reduce the number of times I need to zoom in, I added custom keyboard shortcuts: alt-left to go one frame left, alt-right to ….

  • Thanks. It worked. I didn’t want to take that round-about route if I could just configure Vegas with a different setting. Happily, I don’t expect to be given too many Variable-Bit-Rate-audio videos.

“Default track height” is better than nothing, but not what I’ll say we all need. I’m seeking “previous track heights”, since I may have set some tracks shorter than default and some taller.

That said, Ctrl+’ did nothing. I checked “Customize Keyboard” and searched for “track height”, found nothing, then browsed through the results for “track”, and found nothing relevant.

  • Ingenious!
    Thank you.

Thanks Linda, but alas, the restore options in the “track motion” window don’t affect the zoom level in the timeline.

    I have found:

    1. If I use the zoom tool on the timeline, but just look without making an edit, a left-click will restore the track heights and time-zoom-level.

    2. There is a script “SetZoomLevel” so you can restore back to a preferred time-zoom-level (for example, a one-minute width on the visible timeline).

    BUT

I have not found a script or method to restore the track heights.

  • Grazie,
    you wrote:

. . or set up a Multi Screen using several Tracks. You can apply realtime Fxs and so on. I just threw together a 2×2 with a mix of Fxs on each Event.

Was that in response to what I had written to Douglas, or is what you wrote an afterthought to your other post? If it is a response to what I wrote to Douglas, please help me find the connection.

Am I right that you are using the term “Multi Screen” to refer to displaying both the trimmer monitor and the main preview monitor?

What is a 2×2? Two pairs of tracks, each pair consisting of an audio and video track?

How would using several tracks help with viewing different versions of an edit? Yes, I could apply fx to one a-v pair of tracks and not to the other pair. I could mute one pair, play the section, then mute the other pair, and play that section, but we’re talking about simultaneous viewing of two versions of an edit, so I must be misunderstanding you.

    Thanks,
    Jill

  • Grazie,
Good news – I like that. It seems I need you to tell me:
what do you press that starts both playing at the same time?

Maybe you gave me that answer in talking about loops, but I tried looping sections in both the trimmer and timeline and then pressing (a) “L” and (b) spacebar, and neither (a) nor (b) got both previewers playing. I tried once with the focus on the timeline, and once with the focus on the trimmer.

I see this problem does not occur only when you play it in the preview monitor, but even after rendering. In that case, my tip probably won’t help, but it might:
    pre-render.
Select one of the crossfades. Go “Tools” “Selectively Pre-render Video” “Render loop region only”. When finished, watch that section – is it smooth? Perhaps having done the pre-render, the render will work better.
