  • AVI file with VBR MP3 has crunched audio in Vegas (also: ‘Packed Bitstream’)

When I open the file in AVIDemux, I get 2 prompts:
One tells me the file has VBR MP3 audio and asks “build a VBR timemap?”.
The other says “Packed Bitstream detected – unpack?”
After saying yes to those 2 prompts, the video loads with synchronized audio.

In Vegas, the audio is scrunched down to around 1/10th of what I should be. It’s all at the left of the timeline, whereas the video fills the displayed timeline.

How can I open the file in Vegas?

Try saving the AVI file with uncompressed WAV audio before loading into Vegas. I don’t think there is anything you can do in Vegas to make it read the file correctly.

Thanks. It worked. I didn’t want to take that round-about route if I could just configure Vegas with a different setting. Happily, I don’t expect to be given too many Variable-Bit-Rate-audio videos.
