Yup, you’re correct about Dupe Detection only working on V1, which I should have mentioned. But there’s not much harm in turning it on. I always leave it on and it’s saved me quite a few times.

I’ve used the color method you mention, mainly for figuring out what shots need to be uprezed in a sequence. That could work too, depending on how they organized the project.

    Hey there,

If you turn on Dupe Detection in the hamburger menu of your sequence, a red line will appear on any clip that is used more than once.

If you want to find unused clips, you can open your sequence and any bin, and choose “Select Unreferenced Clips” – then you can see any unused clips in that bin.

    Good luck!

You’ve probably figured this out already, I hope, but your issue is that you have to pair the tracks. Select the two tracks and hit Option+L.

    Good luck!

One of the places I work uses Back thru the Future computer recycling. They also recycle cds and dvds. I think there is some charge associated with their services. Here’s their website:

“1) I use motion and zoom on several of the still frames, and when I zoom into a still image, or track across it, it fills the entire 1440×1080 window. I need to do the zooms and pans across the images without letting them enlarge past the original 35mm frame I reference above. How do I do this? ”

You should definitely get the book mentioned in the last post. It’s extremely helpful and very clear.

As for your question number 1 there, the way I would do that is to create the frame in Photoshop and add on a track above the moving pictures. If you did not want to use Photoshop, you could add two black color mattes in FCP and crop them to create the matte.

    Good luck!

You could just nest your sequence. Lasso the whole thing and then use ctrl+c to create a new nested sequence with no edits, and then you’ll only need to apply the effect once.

Also, you could apply the effect to one clip, and then copy and use paste attributes to apply it to the rest.

I don’t think you want to undo all your edits just to apply an effect.

    Good luck!

Oops. I just double-checked that and “clip enable” does erase your render file. Bummer!

Also, if you just want to see under one clip, you can right click on that clip and turn off “clip enable”. That doesn’t mess with the render files, but it is impractical if you’ve got a lot of edits in your higher track.

I just tried out using Glow Darks as a transition, and it looks great. Very cool.

    Thanks!

February 8, 2008 at 3:02 pm in reply to: Getting My wife a present for Valentine’s Day

As a married female editor, I’d be pretty psyched if my husband bought me such an thoughful present for Valentines Day. And expensive! I normally think of Valentines Day as more of $20 present kind of holiday. Hmmmm… maybe I need to email this to my husband. But then I’d have to get him something big too – never mind.

Other people have answered your questions really well, but I just wanted to add that as a freelance editor I find it a huge benefit to be proficient on both AVID and FCP. My work is split down the middle, and I’ve heard from people hiring FCP editors that they sometimes have a hard time finding good editors. If she’s considering a freelance career I’d personally recommend spending the time to learn FCP (although I certainly know a lot of successful freelance editors that only do one or the other). And, on the romance side, getting her a program she already knows and likes will probably get you more points.

Anyway, I think it sounds like a very thoughtful gift. It wouldn’t hurt to also give her flowers, though.
