are you editing using ProRes ? are you using very large stills ?

there is a “droplet” to add pull down using compressor. i think it was posted a year or so i believe. i’ve used it. works great for me.

i get the same thing when using mp3 files. i convert to wave or aiff at 48k and all is fine.

you might try putting the clip into Soundtrack Pro and use Tremolo and Scanner Vibrato and Flanger all together from the effects tab.
play with the controls until you get the desired effect.
