i see what you mean. i usually am dissolving between a wide shot to a tight shot on different sides of the screen. i used your set-up
and dissolved between the same green screen shots in the same position and i get the same effect as you. i have a headache now.

it works well for me. try it. plus you still have the flexibility to add text or effects or slip the clip without diving back into your nest. now if i have 20 or so layers for each shot i will nest but usually at that point i will do a cut between the nests.
i always wished they had allowed for heads/tails in the design of 7 so nesting would be easier….oh well.

you could put your scene 2 green screen and scene 2 bgd. up two tracks at the point where you want to dissolve. trim out your bottom 2 tracks so you’ll have tails for the dissolve. add a dissolve to the two upper tracks and your done. takes about 5 seconds to do and you dont have to fret about the heads and tails nightmare when nesting.

i still like “skip frame”.

back in 1970 drop/non-drop time code was a mystery to a novice editor and drop frame was a mess to deal with because the early cmx systems were crude at best. if you were cutting a 30 second spot you wouldn’t notice the difference in drop/non-drop. cut a 30 min or 60 min show and oops there it is. believe me i learned my lesson early on.

so i smashed my stopwatch that i have used since 1970 to time shows on quad vtr’s and loaded up a tape on digibeta. timecode on the show is drop frame. i set the control track timer to non drop. at the end of 1/2 hour looking at the control track timer it reads 30:00:00/ndf and the drop frame time code from the tape reads 30:01:25/dropframe

i got into butt loads of trouble decades ago by editing some pbs shows in non drop….so my 1/2 hour show was about 2 seconds too long. 4 seconds for an hour show. and the last 4 seconds was the credit for me as cmx editor….hahahaha.

so i bought a stop watch.

i always thought they should have called it “skip frame” time code because thats what it is.

you can also get a good stopwatch and while QCing the show time it from start to end.

i’m not sure.
but i just now re-rednered my clip and removed one of the filters and the culprit was nattress big box of tricks g earthquaker.
so i guess some filters will cause issues.

i had this problem yesterday where i had a clip keyed over a bgd. the clip had filters applied to it. when rendered there were thin vertical lines only on the keyed clip. i went to sequence settings and changed Video Processing to Always Render in RGB and the problem went away. i quess it was the filters i had applied to the clip that was causing the problem.
