The word at NAB is Vegas 7 in Sept.

  • If I am not mistaken, Vegas comes with the CineForm 2.1 codec. Connect HD uses an improved 2.5 codec. That may be the improvement but you can ask CineForm. They are usually very helpful and reply quickly. You can reach them at

I use it with Sony Z1 and A1U without problems. It should work but before you capture go into “Prefs” tab and select the storage areas and enter a filename for the captured files. The greyed area usually would be because they aren’t set.

If you have captured m2t with Vegas you should try converting. Again set preferences. The usual procedure is go to proper tab – capture, convert – make preference selections and go.

  • There may be better ways but I take go to an example of one camera and hit the “capture to clipboard” button. Then in the preview window hit “Clipboard.” Now you have a still of one camera and if you put the cursor on a similar frame in the second camera you can see the changes as you adjust the second. I often use that with color curve adjustment.

Now THAT is helpful. That and spraying for Gremlins. Fortunately, it was covered in my homeowner’s policy.

I finally found it. Select media on timeline, right click, select in media bin, right click, media fx and it came up with a timecode in that I NEVER used under any circumstances. If anyone could explain how that happened, I would greatly appreciate it.

In the media pool I clicked on the file and “properties.” It says “Use Timecode on file” and there is no way I can see to turn it off. The only thing is to change the way the timecode is displayed. When I tried clicking the “Use Timecode” button Vegas almost crashed, went off screen and came back but wouldn’t leave.

It is not in event or track. It has to be in media pool but I never put stuff there and don’t use it so I don’t know how to remove it. As usual, “Help” has no simple answer.

HD Connect saves a lot of trouble.

Do yourself a favor and go to CineForm and download their trial version of HD Connect. It captures and converts to avi – in either one or two steps, depending on your computer, and these files are designed to be editable. They act like DV files in Vegas – pretty much real time. Also, the program will scene detect when it goes through the conversion phase. Vegas won’t do that and requires proxies. The nature of m2t is that it is not an editable format as is. You can get away with one simple cut but that is about it.
