In lower left corner go to “Video FX” – halfway down on left will come up Magic Bullet. Select there and then choose the look on the right. You can drag it up and drop it on the track or clip. After that you can open FX and see it, change the look etc.

As I understand, the Cineform avi is a wrapper around the m2t which is especially good for editing but I’m not sure the footage ever quits being m2t. Someone else might supply more info here.

You can do WMV in Vegas. Quicktime Pro runs $29.95. You can get several flash programs cheaper than Squeeze. I use a program “Flash Video MX” that is very easy to use, costs $49 and not only creates the flash file but writes an html file so it can be played immediately and more easily be integrated into a website. There are some free programs that are supposed to convert to flash but I have not tried those.

The Vegas program is Connect HD, cheaper than the Aspect program required for Premiere Pro. (Premiere Pro is a 10 bit program and Vegas an 8 bit. That probably accounts for the difference and Aspect includes other “extras” such as transitions and Vegas includes many of those.) Connect HD is not required but it is a good program, will scene detect and create the cineform avi file automatically on capture and will also deinterlace. I personally use it and think it was the best $199 I spent but not everyone who does HDV uses it. You should probably use the trial version to see what you think.

No. You probably already have avi on the timeline. When you go into “render as” you click the custom button and select the codec. I often select a Quicktime movie and render it as 3ivx.

One thing you can do with HDV cameras (at least the Z1s) is set both camera timecodes to continious clock and then start them together by using the remote control. The single remote control signal will start them both running at the same time.

Sounds like you are missing a codec. Do you have QT Pro? Have you tried converting the sound from another program?

Is it out of sync for the entire clip or does it get progressively worse, that is, starts in sync but gets out by the end?

Vegas is not a 64bit program would be my guess.
