  • Cineform Aspect HD? Is this needed with Vegas 7?

    Hello,

I am planning to move to HDV soon. I was reading in another forum the following statement:

“The “secret” to editing HDV on a PC painlessly has to be Cineforms AspectHD plugin for Premiere Pro. By getting out of native MPEG2 long GOP editing and into the wavelet-based Cineform codec your requirements for editing HD resolution footage are similar for editing DV.”

Is this something that I need to add to Vegas 7 to increase performance?

Also, I am planning to add a external hardrive to my system. I am considering the Western Digital “My Book” 500 gig firewire/usb drive. Would this be a good solution? Or should I look at something else?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

The Vegas program is Connect HD, cheaper than the Aspect program required for Premiere Pro. (Premiere Pro is a 10 bit program and Vegas an 8 bit. That probably accounts for the difference and Aspect includes other “extras” such as transitions and Vegas includes many of those.) Connect HD is not required but it is a good program, will scene detect and create the cineform avi file automatically on capture and will also deinterlace. I personally use it and think it was the best $199 I spent but not everyone who does HDV uses it. You should probably use the trial version to see what you think.
