  • How to capture date/time stamp in Vegas 7?

Posted by Dan Abreu on February 11, 2007 at 10:57 pm

I’m trying to sync two DV cams together in Vegas 7 and read somewhere that it’s easiest if the date/time stamp is used. I synchronized the date and time settings on both cameras to the second, but all I seem to get in Vegas (using VASST Ultimate) is the time stamp of the tapes, which don’t really help because I can’t hit both record buttons at the exact same time. Can anyone tell me if this is possible, and if so, how I might get it to happen?

Is there audio on both cams? You can get a quick, gross adjustment by lining up the waveforms that is more accurate than 1 second. You can fine tune from there.

One thing you can do with HDV cameras (at least the Z1s) is set both camera timecodes to continious clock and then start them together by using the remote control. The single remote control signal will start them both running at the same time.

    I agree with Gary.
Save the hassle and use a clapboard.
Some kind of visual and a hard quick staccato sound.
I shoot local rock bands with multiple camera’s
each camera is of a different brand or quality.
Some are $300 cheapies that friends own and operate.

The point is…Drunk friends dont understand anything more than..
“point at the drummer when he clicks his sticks together at the beginning of the song.

    Works like a charm.
In post I line up the camera’s audio waveforms. trim the front end, drop a marker, name the song. then if I slip by accident I can see that it moved from the marker.

Count the seconds in labor…..its quicker, simpler this way…a lot.
