Houston, you have a problem… the AVCHD files should be prores instead. How did you import them?

Trash your thumbnail files for starters, to make sure the media isn’t really offline when you open FCP. If you reconnect, you will have to render it again. When you open a project file whose media isn’t online (say you forgot to mount a FW drive) the thumbnails get rewritten showing offline media. They don’t always rebuild when you reconnect. (they should but don’t sometimes). .. With all the media connected, and all the thumbnails showing that it is. Render it, then never open the file without the media online.
See if that doesn’t fix you up.

Not sure what’s causing your crashing, but if you post more about your workflow here I’ll bet we can figure out the problem.
What are the properties of the source clips? DV? HDV? or?
What are the sequence settings you’re using, and is the media stored on drives other than the USB drives in the report?Jerry

You can still close the gap if you lock the underlying audio tracks. Would that work for you?

Did you transcode the FS5’s media to ProRes before you edited? If not try that.

You likely have the wrong device control set. Try the others available in the audio/video settings window. bet it uses a “basic” setting. Match the frame rate you shot…

Start troubleshooting by trashing your FCP preferences. (in your user library/preferences/FCP user data folder. All three of the red and white icon’d files.

Are you passing the media too? Sounds like a bug to me. Try the other XML formats?
