Combining, editing, and burning HDSLR and SD MiniDV footage on Final Cut Pro/DVD Studio Pro
Posted by Samir Mahadin on August 3, 2011 at 6:24 pmI am editing a dance recital for a client shot with an HDSLR (24 f/s 16×9) and a Panasonic HVX (24P SD 4×3) on miniDV.
Any suggestions on the best workflow to edit, and export the footage to a SD DVD?
Thanks!

August 3, 2011 at 6:41 pmI’d down convert the HD to SD and edit in a DV sequence…

How should I go about converting the SD to HD?

August 4, 2011 at 10:27 amIf you’re computer is fast enough, you might just edit it all in a DV sequence. The HD material may well play OK without rendering it until the end… so the “transfer” happens when you render the HD in the SD sequence.
If you find that doesn’t work, send the HD clips to Compressor, and transfer them to DV there.

August 4, 2011 at 10:00 pmAwesome. I think my Mac can handle editing in the DV sequence. I already logged and transfered the HDSLR to apple pro res and it seems to be ok.
Would you recommend I convert the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 or 16:9 to 4:3 to match the two different sources?

September 2, 2011 at 3:12 amDude, You dont want a DV sequence, pro rez those hd clips, work with the higest rez you got…
is this for a Feature film or Client? Make a double copy of the dv footage, put a light blur filter and extend to the edge of the HD frame size…Boom!I shoot the pannasonic DVX 100b on squezz mode, as my 2nd or 3rd camera, then it fits HD Perfect.
