Start about a month ago. Once people started to look past a missing feature set.

FCP has a limitation of 4000 pixels in either direction, so you’ve no problem…
Keep going, but know that you may have to put out QT’s which are sections of the movie then marry them to make your final outputting sequences.
Out of memory errors are either files from photoshop with blank layers in them (FCP will report an error) or corrupt media, usually render files.

What version of FCP are you running exactly? 7.0.3 or?
How is your scratch disk formatted? Mac OS extended? or?When you copied the files from your recording device, did you simply drag and drop all folders, maintaining their file structure? Let’s hope so…

Stay right where you are and finish.. keeping the project file small will help with RAM problems. If you have to, you could export 1/2 of the movie to a self contained movie, then the other half to a movie, then import them back to FCP, and marry your “master sequence” that way, with fewer clips in it. You’ll lose no quality.

It comes down to how much movement is in the footage. Lots of fast action or a lot of fast camera movement will look better in the higher data rates of ProRes land… but if it’s not full of that, LT is a broadcast quality format and suitable for a lot of jobs as long as there isn’t a lot of fast movement, nor are you planning a lot of keying, green screen stuff etc.
I’d look at both side by side on the same clip which has the most movement in it, and see if you can see a difference.

Are the Looks plugins, and the Mojo drivers the correct ones for the OS you’re running? Do check that out. Sounds like the drivers and/or the filters are fighting the OS..?

To in stall FCS from up, OS et all.. takes about 5 hours or so. After you backup… which can take a lot of time depending on how organized you are. A new disk added to a tower makes this a lot easier. Disk images of FCS 2009 install in about 30 minutes… they do come in handy!

You bet.
HDV won’t key well, so you should probably capture to ProRes using the MXO 2. I actually have an article about this here: https://library.creativecow.net/articles/hofmann_jerry/matrox_mxo2.php
I wasn’t using it for green screen, but sure would if I did. You could immediately check out the key ability right there on the set so you could make lighting changes if need be. Great way to capture for green screen work for sure.
Be sure to back up the media files, as they are your masters. But recording in 10 bit video in a 422 color space is a TON better than HDV’s 8 bit 420 colorspace. 4 times better color resolution… making keys a lot easier.
Check out the keys using Motion’s Primatte keyer if you don’t have something else already in mind. It’s better than FCP’s keyer… though if you shoot it right even FCP’s key works pretty well.

no, rebuilt as in back up your startup disk, then erase it, reinstall everything from the ground up.

XML export from her system can be opened in yours. She exports it, sends it to you, and you import it. It will open as an offline set of files, including her sequences. Then you need to reconnect the video and audio files to it.
It will work best if your media files are exactly like the ones she’s using… down to the frame exact.
