  • Working between Final Cut 7 and Final Cut 5- how to export so it’s backwards compatible?

    Hello Everyone,
Thank you in advance for looking at this post.

I am working with an editor right now on a short film. She has FCP 7, and I have FCP 5. I will be actually doing the final cut of the film, based on her sequence. Is there anyway she can export her sequence so it’s compatible with my older version? OR is this solution to use an XML or EDL (which i’ve never used before and not exactly sure HOW to use)

Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

XML export from her system can be opened in yours. She exports it, sends it to you, and you import it. It will open as an offline set of files, including her sequences. Then you need to reconnect the video and audio files to it.

It will work best if your media files are exactly like the ones she’s using… down to the frame exact.

I’d do a media manage with handles if that’s appropriate and export a master xml of that project — you’ll have to revert back a couple of versions of XML — I don’t know which would be compatible with FCP5 — maybe XMLVs4?
