Try doing the invert in Color instead.

There’s no better way to preserve footage quality. The ProRes transfer is visually lossless, so I’d not be concerned.
There are different flavors of ProRes though, and the higher data rate versions (HQ for example) may look better than the others if there is a lot of movement in the footage.

Hard to say, but post what the sequence settings are, and what the source audio file format is.

Could be a bad render file. Might trash those and send the sequence to compressor without being rendered.

MP3’s aren’t supported in FCP 7… so you need to transcode the files to aif’s, cut them in and replace the original MP3’s in your sequence.

Look in the Settings Pane in Compressor, in the Advanced format conversion folder there is another set of folders. In the one called “Apple Codecs” you’ll find the ProRes presets. Just drag them to the clip…

Well, a simple scan to HD would limit your scaling abilities. So if you want to zoom in on shots, then you’ll want a higher resolution scan I’d think. 4k probably. You end up with a DPX sequence or something that you can transcode to proves, but leave the ability to zoom in on those pixels. seems to me.
Modern VideoFilm has a Sprit 4k I think. I’m sure there are others out there. but that would be the best I’d think. Planning to get back to film?
Can’t get to the shoot reels eh?

It’s there… look in the compression presets for “advanced format conversion”. They are in a folder there…
Just apply the ProRes preset from there that matches the frame size and frame rate of the h.264 files. It will take a while to transcode, so don’t worry it’s normal.

Reimport the files from the original XDCAM file backup. If there’s no backup of the shoot, you’re in a world of hurt.
