You can just edit it in 29.97 (i.e., capture it just as it if were that because in reality, that’s what’s on the tape.) or you can remove the pulldown pattern with Cinema Tools… it’s easy too. Just open CT after capturing it as normal DV and select the preset to remove the 2:3 pulldown pattern from the files. It won’t really look much different either way, but if the program is long, like near 90 m inutes or something, then you could end up with a better MPEG stream in the end if you remove that pattern because you’ll only be working with 24 frames per second instead of 30 with that pulldown pattern, but for a shorter show I wonder if it’s really worth the effort. You’d also have to have the disk space to acomodate the new “true” 24fps files… but again, I really don’t think it will look much different in the end.

It won’t read them… but for the low low additional couple of thousand dollars you can buy a machine that will playback and record HDV… it’s the only one out there right now from Sony. HVRM10U

By all accounts you want to buy either a Sony machine, or a Panasonic machine. The more you spend, the more you get… I’ve a DSR-11 Sony I’ve simply loved.

Put the matte below the clip you want to fill the matte with… control click on the upper clip and change it’s composite mode to Travel Matte Luma.

The deck itself has to support insert edits… I bet it doesn’t… (1800 certainly does support it so that’s why it works for you there). Look in the Deck’s manual?

Create a bin view of only the columns you want to print… control click on a column header name to hide it…
Then export a Batch List from the File/Export menu… open that in word or excel (better BTW in excel) or any text editor and print.
