24p 2:3
Posted by K-1 on July 8, 2005 at 3:01 pmIs there anything special I need to do when my footage is shot in 24p when importing to FCP 5?
My final product will be video.

July 8, 2005 at 10:15 pmYou can just edit it in 29.97 (i.e., capture it just as it if were that because in reality, that’s what’s on the tape.) or you can remove the pulldown pattern with Cinema Tools… it’s easy too. Just open CT after capturing it as normal DV and select the preset to remove the 2:3 pulldown pattern from the files. It won’t really look much different either way, but if the program is long, like near 90 m inutes or something, then you could end up with a better MPEG stream in the end if you remove that pattern because you’ll only be working with 24 frames per second instead of 30 with that pulldown pattern, but for a shorter show I wonder if it’s really worth the effort. You’d also have to have the disk space to acomodate the new “true” 24fps files… but again, I really don’t think it will look much different in the end.
