Might post this in the CineWave forum here at the COW… and when you do, Post the exact OS, version of QuickTime, and version of Cinewave drivers you are running.
Most likely the combo you are running is causing the problem.

Well I’m afraid you did things wrongly…
You should have batched it at 29.97 THEN removed the pulldown. FCP can’t remove a 2:3:2:3 pulldown, which dollars to doughnuts, this is the pattern that the source tape has. So in effect you’ve removed the pulldown twice. Once during capture and again in CT. The fix is to capture your footage at 29.97 then remove the pulldown in CT only one time. I think the preset settings are probably correct.

You don’t want to go outside the target boxes much with any hue so sounds like you can push it a bit more and stay legal… BUT: keep in mind that most consumers keep their TV sets setup with way too much color so when viewing YOUR piece, I’d suggest you don’t go to the ragged edge.

Play it safe. Do an erase and install after backing up.
What I did was use another partition for the new install, leaving the old… that way I could always go back. Good thing too, couldn’t get DVD SP 4 to open at all this afternoon, so went to backup to finish a DVD.. whew…

Post more about the whole process… Assuming the film was transferred with a 2:3 pulldown, how did you remove it to come up with 24fps?

Best way to upconvert the SD material is thru a Terranex box if there’s one around your vacinity… down converting would be easier and possibly look much the same if the end result is a DVD. If you have to deliver a DVD… you’ll end up in the SD land anyway…
FWIW a Kona 2 is $2500 (in the US anyway) not $3500 (UK pricing?)… Maybe an IO would be more in the price range? an analog version to SDI is 1k here in the US.. the digital only version is the same, and the combo IO is 2k… None of the IO’s are HD, however they are super clean SD boxes…

Sounds like a bad media file is getting in the way possibly… put your media files in another folder, and then open the project file reconnecting clips only a few at a time, until an error message happens. Save often during this process of finding the bad file, then recapture or re create it…

Select all in your Browser’s project tab, then control click on any clip or sequence… Select Media manager from the pop up menu. Select copy, Make new project file, set destination, and use current settings. Makes a new project file all connected to the copied clips… only thing that it does that I don’t like, is it doesn’t keep all the new clips in folders like they might have been in the original project file. However you can then make a copy of your current project file, and simply reconect to the new media (keeps the bins that way). This works and is exactly what you are trying to accomplish.
The backup programs mentioned in the thread really aren’t what you were asking about doing. The Media Manager has a great explaination in FCP’s help menu… open it, and read about it there. It can do a lot of stuff for you!
