Exporting film dailies
I am currently cutting a feature film shot on super 16 on my final cut 4.5. I have been following what i believe is the correct process for importing the footage and editing on a sequence at 24fps. I batched all the footage the exact same way and have a pretty tight work flow going. But whhen i export certain scenes, some of the images are really jittery. They are interlaced to death and look like crap on a tv. I have been exporting at the dv ntsc 24 fps setting in final cut pro. Should i be working on a sequence at 23.98 fps. Is there anyway to clean these images up? Whats weird is not all the images look bad just some.

Post more about the whole process… Assuming the film was transferred with a 2:3 pulldown, how did you remove it to come up with 24fps?

So basically i logged all the footage then batched it at the advanced 2:3:3:2 pulldown when i imported the clips. Then i batch reversed telecined all the clips in cinema tools to 24fps and left all the default settings that the app has set, for example: (F1-F2) and the standard upper/lower box is checked. Reconnected the clips and i started cutting right away. Then i export everything at the dv ntsc 24fps setting on my 24 fps sequence. Like i said its only certain clips that look bad other stuff looks great. Also, i requested the dailies come to me me on mini dv, could this be the problem?

Well I’m afraid you did things wrongly…
You should have batched it at 29.97 THEN removed the pulldown. FCP can’t remove a 2:3:2:3 pulldown, which dollars to doughnuts, this is the pattern that the source tape has. So in effect you’ve removed the pulldown twice. Once during capture and again in CT. The fix is to capture your footage at 29.97 then remove the pulldown in CT only one time. I think the preset settings are probably correct.
