I sort of just went through this. Apple doesn’t consider a graphics card to be “user installable” so you’d have to upgrade it later say through an apple store or other authorized service center.
4 gigs of RAM is usually enough to run the Suite with no problems at all… is a typical setup anyway.
The extra sata’s are easliy installed by a user, and are the same as what you can buy off the shelf really. I like Hitachi SATA’s myself and buy them for less than what Apple sells them for from someone like zipzoomfly.com… however if you buy the extended warranty (which is worth every dime I might add) only Apple’s parts and drives etc. would be covered so you need to take that into consideration I suppose… But Apple’s drives are fine, and may be one of many different manufacturers, just cost a bit more.

Well what I do is export a non self contained QT movie from FCP, then import that file into Compressor… that way it doesn’t stop FCP from running.

I’m a bit confused possibly, but If all you need is another 20 frames of something already in the motion project, why not just add the frames in Motion in the timeline window there? you can drag a clip longer there with ease anyway… or just import those 20 frames if they are not already part of another clip… as was suggested in the Motion forum.

Change the clips in Motion… i.e. open the motion project, make changes, then it should be updated in FCP to reflect those changes.

I thought of this too Andy…But it would still be a problem relinking, depending on just how many edits are in the sequence and how many clips you’d need to reconnect, this could be a bit cumbersome… might be faster to just rename them in Browser.

Try changing the keyboard layout to multicam editing… then the number keys on the keypad will work…

It can use up to 4 gigs… but rarely needs that much. If you’re working in long form however, it will come into play… short form doesn’t require as much RAM.

Thanks for the correction! You are right it’s decompose (been 4 years now since avid days).. always was a scary sounding thing to do too! But other than an XML export/import, it’s the only way to do this without recapturing it all. FCP has to have the media online and connected to any sequence to perform basically, the same thing.

FCP 5 and 10.3.9 isn’t my favorite at all… I’d do a clean install of Tiger and then reinstall FCP 5 over it after running software update to get to 10.4.3, and QT 7.0.3. FCP 5 will run in 10.3.9, just not very well…
