Self contained movies always include audio, but if you send a sequence out without rendering EVERYTHING first, it will contain video that was unrendered in the sequence you exported. Reference movies must have rendered effects to reference otherwise they must contain and create these renders including the “full” res status unrendered effects. (like simple titles)
The Filp for Mac thing isn’t normal. I’ve installed it and not seen a loss in stability… I’d suggest you read my article in the COW magazine about maintaining and operating a rock solid FCP system.
Media 100 is on it’s last legs… probably not best to be working with a system with a dead end future. Pretty silly to spend a ton of bucks when a day’s reinstall would most likely fix you right up. Trashed preferences and run disk utilites lately? Repaird permissions lately? Did you reinstall it all when you went to Tiger? If not that’s much more likely the cause of your headaches.

“The Digital Cinema Desktop Preview feature allows you to preview your video using
any available computer display connected to an AGP graphics card. (Displays
connected to a PCI graphics card cannot be used by Digital Cinema Desktop.) If you
have two computer displays, one can be used to view the Final Cut Pro interface and
the Finder while the other can be used as a dedicated video monitor. For Final Cut Pro
PowerBook systems and other single display systems, you can switch between the user
interface and the Digital Cinema Desktop Preview display.”So apparently, you can’t do it the way you’d like… can keep the PB’s display the startup display and the CD could be the Digital Cinema display though.

I”m not sure I’d want to be monitoring composite video though… could you take the component analog out from the card to the monitor?

If you just “upgraded” to Tiger from Panther, that too could be part of the problem. Have you tried trashing your preference files for FCP?

Doesn’t Avid accept any QT movie, then while it imports it, it converts any uncompatible QT to it’s format? Did your system not recongize the files? FCP captures as native HDV (MPEG) or it can capture files using Apple’s Intermediate Codec for HDV which is an all I frame codec and would make the files roughly the same size as DVCPRO100. Sort of depends on what was chosen when it was captured.
Might be best just to down convert or cross conver the HDV from the original tapes…

Is the client viewing it as a stream? or is he downloading the file first. Might have him download it first if he’s attempting a stream playback across the Internet. Also can make this more “transparent” if you set the file to be a progressive download stream… that way it’s stored on a temp basis on his computer before playback begins.
