Ditto!
I know of a place that was making plenty of money using an Avid that had to be 6 years old running on the same OS that it shipped with. Cripes! where is the law that states you must always upgrade. I have a G4 that is running FCP 4.5 that still could be used to edit most all of the jobs out there. Slow renders, but it STILL WORKS.
Not only that, Apple dumps support for old machines with their software with regularity. How else can the software tap into technology only available on newer machines. Don’t you want the software to keep up with the hardware? If they held back the tech that can only work on the later machines, we’d not improve the performance of the software…

Only other thing I can think of is to transcode the MP3 files to aiffs then export it using those instead.

Post the format of the video and audio you’re working from too.

Make sure the firewire bus isn’t bad… connect a drive or some other device to it, and see if the system sees it. If it doesn’t, better get to an apple store and service.

MIght look at the Refurbs that Apple sells in the online store. Never seen a problem with them, and they have full warranty. Click on the “special deals” link in the Apple online store.
I’d look at CalDigit, iSTorage Pro, or G-Tech drives.

February 18, 2012 at 2:01 pm in reply to: Best settings to export lossless master from FCP7? Professional archive workflow suggestions?Down the line then, edit in an HD sequence, and deliver an SD version of that by exporting it using QT conversion to say, ProRes SD.. Then use the method of using current settings for an HD backup of the sequence.

Professional archive workflow suggestions?Well the best export for the highest quality of your sequence is to select the sequence, then choose file/Export QuickTime Movie… Then in the box that opens choose “Make self contained” and use “Current settings”.

No, but you could put them in a project file all by themselves, and if you keep it open, it can open every time you launch FCP.
