The tearing could be caused by interlaced video (1080i) being played on a progressive display (your computer monitor). That’s why the Apple files play OK. They are progressive not interlaced.

I don’t think you should worry about it… In my classroom at school, I’m running it along side FCP X on the same Lion partition, and it’s humming along just fine. If you have a capture card be sure there are drivers for Lion, but other than that, you’re not doing something that you’ll regret don’t think.

Can you import these files just as a file/import? If not I’d suggest you try transcoding them from .wav’s to aiff’s.

That’s a fact. FCP X is the fastest nle to cut with out there.

But you have to work it as it was designed to work. Which is efficient IMHO. BUt so foreign to track based editors. You get past it if you just do the training. Fast. It’s faster to teach than FCP 7 was. That’s for sure.

Well, it’s fastest Until next week possilbly when the other three A’s announce NLE goodies at NAB… Gotta love it.

  • Unless they are all the same distance from each other, no… if they are, just set the still duration to be the duration between the markers.

  • Call AJA…

But also try toggling on and off “mirroring on the desktop”. It’s in the Audio/Video settings in the AV Devices tab. Turn it off to see if it streams OK, then turn it back on…

  • Turn the Io off and then let it sit a bit, then try again. Sounds like a frame stuck in a buffer… but restarting helps.

Since this isn’t anything new for you, you’ve likely set it up right, but post the sequence settings, source material’s format and any processing you did such as a transcode etc…

Also might call the good fellas at AJA, the customer service there is the best there is. Bet they can have you up in 5 minutes. If you’ve set it up properly in the Io’s setup, and the FCP settings are all right, and restarting doesn’t help, the next thing I’d do is leave a message in AJA’s customer service phone for sure.

Also be sure it’s not the switcher… ie, check the output of the io directly on a monitor. All sync signals fed OK?

What was the original shooting format, and how did you get it to ProRes if indeed that was the workflow… or did you record directly to ProRes from the get go?

I’d certainly try a CBR at about 8 Kbps if your program is under an hour.

April 8, 2012 at 12:08 pm in reply to: Is Compressor 4 worth the upgrade from 3.5.3?

Sorry, I’m unaware of any difference in the mp4 encodes, but could be, just don’t know.

I presumed you were using FCP 7.. That’s what I’m unclear about. Sending from 7 to Compressor 4 (it might not work, I just don’t know)…

I’m not hearing anything about 4 being faster than earlier versions. I don’t think it is.

If you’re making h.264 streams, Matrox has an accelerator board for this…
