DVD Text Pixelation
Posted by Brad Champagne on April 8, 2012 at 11:57 amI have a ProRes 422-HQ video that I’m outputting from FCP with current settings. When I apply the MPEG-2 DVD settings to the video in Compressor the text comes out badly pixelated. What’s happening?
I can give more information as needed. Thanks!

April 8, 2012 at 2:43 pmWhat was the original shooting format, and how did you get it to ProRes if indeed that was the workflow… or did you record directly to ProRes from the get go?
I’d certainly try a CBR at about 8 Kbps if your program is under an hour.

April 8, 2012 at 7:00 pmWe shot on the Canon 7D & 5D. We transfered the footage to Prores from the original H264 camera files using the Canon log and transfer plugin. It’s a short film, about 15 minutes so yea it’s definitely under an hour. What’s a CBR?
Thanks so much for the response!

April 9, 2012 at 1:51 pmCBR is Contant Bit Rate, as opposed to VBR which is Variable Bit Rate.
CBR @ 8Kbps might help, but I’m also curious what your text looks like. If it’s small and thin, then yea, it will look like crap when converted to SD.

April 9, 2012 at 10:21 pmMore info would be helpful too. Like how the text was made? is it scrolling or stills? And to be clear you’re downrezzing from HD to SD?
