FIne on the timeline, won’t play out of the IO, suggestions?
up-to-date FCP7 and an ioHD with latest firmware, octocore mac pro. Everything I can find is set the same, for an SD analog component output, like I’ve had hundreds of times before. Video plays in the canvas, but the video output on the switcher fed by the io HD is a still frame, that updates to whatever still frame I stop on when I stop the timeline. Hit play, and the live output again is stuck in a still frame while the canvas plays just fine. Spent 4 hours today rebooting, re-rendering, re-setting settings. Thinking of buying a puppy so I can kick it, I’m so frustrated. What else should I try?

Turn the Io off and then let it sit a bit, then try again. Sounds like a frame stuck in a buffer… but restarting helps.
Since this isn’t anything new for you, you’ve likely set it up right, but post the sequence settings, source material’s format and any processing you did such as a transcode etc…
Also might call the good fellas at AJA, the customer service there is the best there is. Bet they can have you up in 5 minutes. If you’ve set it up properly in the Io’s setup, and the FCP settings are all right, and restarting doesn’t help, the next thing I’d do is leave a message in AJA’s customer service phone for sure.
Also be sure it’s not the switcher… ie, check the output of the io directly on a monitor. All sync signals fed OK?

Does your easy setup match the sequence? I have seen that with my Kona 3 if I have an HD Easy Setup with an SD sequence and vice versa

All settings identical, far as I can tell.
It’s not one stuck frame. You park your play head on the timeline anywhere, and the output parks on the same frame to match. But then you hit play, and only the canvas plays in motion, in realtime, with sound. The output stays on the frame where you had parked, until the play head is stopped, whereupon the output immediately updates to that new still frame. Quite maddening.

I’m not on AJA, I’m using Blackmagic, but I get that problem sometimes too. Sometimes it just takes a Refresh A/V, turning each on and off, restarting FCP, restarting the system, closing and reopening the canvas window, even turning the monitor on and off or unplugging and replugging the connection. Sometimes it’s just one of these, or a combo, but I’ve been able to get it back, usually after a reboot.

Call AJA…
But also try toggling on and off “mirroring on the desktop”. It’s in the Audio/Video settings in the AV Devices tab. Turn it off to see if it streams OK, then turn it back on…

Did you upgrade AJA drivers recently? The latest drivers are designed for FCPX and are beta. Make sure your drivers are the latest non FCPX versions. It is fairly well documented on the AJA site

I’ll just throw in the obvious one for measure: in the View menu, is External Video set to All Frames? Cmd-F12 toggles it off so you might have done that by accident in some finger-stretching exercices…

No, it is always on “show all frames”, I check it every time I refresh the output.

It sounds like a mismatch in settings, but the FCP Output preferences have to also match the sequence. There are some codecs that will not play out over SDI no matter what, like Animation.
