To add to this discussion, the only reason those adapters exist is so you could connect an eSATA only drive to a USB port… just for a data transfer…

Screen resolution would make FCP 7’s text pretty small is the only problem I could see with it. Remember you can enlarge the clip’s text in the browser and timeline windows though.
FW ports can be added via the Thunderbolt port… There’s a slew of solutions for this starting with a 30 dollar adapter… Both Belkin and Matrox have products to expand out ports for a TB connection so that’s the solution for FW anyway.

The white files are offline files. i.e., not connected to media. Look where you saved these and see if they are still there.
The other thing is probably the keyframes button has been pushed. Push it again to close up the tracks. It’s the button with green and blue lines on it in the lower left corner of the timeline window.

The 30fps is really 29.97… or if you shot 24p (NOT advanced) it too will be 29.97 with a pulldown. The advanced 24p doesn’t look all that great if you need to deliver 29.97.

Might try resetting your graphics card. I’ve seen this fix the problem. Not had it in a long long time though.
I thing too the h.264 to XDCAM transfer is possibly suspect too. GOP to GOP. I’d be transcoding and working in ProRes instead of XDCAM if you can. i frame media formats such as ProREs or DVCPROHD are a lot easier on your computer to work with for sure.

Post the specs of that Firewire drive.
How is it formatted? You can find out by selecting it, then typing cmd+i.
The FW drive should be used for the media storage. Nothing you’ve done was incorrect. The problem lies in that hard drive I’ll wager. The drive needs to be Mac OS Extended, and should be pretty fast. XDCAM isn’t the easiest to work with, but works fine most all the time. I’m posting with it a lot, and use the workflow you’ve posted with no problems.
