    Aaron- Some things to check.

    First- Turn off deck and disconnect firewire cable. Turn on deck and go to deck menu and choose HDV (not auto or DV). Turn iLink down convert to off. Turn off the deck.

    Quit out of Final Cut Pro (Final Cut cannot be running while you mount the deck for HDV.)

    Connect your firewire cable to a an independent firewire bus (no other firewire devices can be connected)>Turn on your deck.

    Go to Apple icon (upper left of screen)>more info>firewire devices. Can you see your deck? Do not proceed until your computer sees the deck.

    If the computer sees the deck launch FCP. Choose Easy Setup that matches your recorded format exactly.

    Karen- Tools>keyboard layout>customize> unlock (padlock)> search Zoom>select ‘Zoom in on playhead’>drag to key you want to use>select ‘zoom out from playhead’>drag to key you want to use for zoom out.

    I use those two keyboard shortcuts 10 times more than any other keyboard shortcut except space bar.

    Emmanuel- I want you to try something as a test. Close out of all applications. Find the HDV file on your hard drive. Make sure the file extension is showing (preferences). Select the file and change the extension to .m2t. Will the file play on your PC now? Sometimes the mac/PC thing is solved just by changing the extension.

    March 25, 2009 at 7:28 pm in reply to: AJA Kona 6.0.3 question

    Marc- I have down converted my HDV to 525 on ingest many times. Here is what the control panel looks like on down convert;

    To get the down convert I set input at 1080i and then right clicked the frame buffer and chose 525.

    Dirk- When I’m tired it is usually from lack of sleep. When I can’t do transitions it is usually from lack of slop. Can you say handles?

  • Thomas- Select all clips in the timeline. Right click the selected clips>reconnect media>search. When it finds one it should find them all (if they are in the same location). Select connect and you should be done.

  • Thomas- Quit out of project. Re-launch project, select search in the missing media dialog box. FCP should find the clip. Choose connect. FCP should connect with all missing clips. Save. You should be good to go.

    Ben- You are entering a tough transition period- new platform, operating system and NLE software. You have the right tools. Trust me when I say it is best to forget the old way of doing things. Final Cut does things differently. Proceed with an open mind and the right attitude and you will be rolling in a couple of weeks.

    Here is an excellent link at the Ken Stone website with a tutorial done by Andrew Balis on starting a Final Cut project:
