What DVD player are you attempting to play it on and what media are you using?

I have been using Vegas and DVD A since version 4 of Vegas and have been burning fine. I have found that on some older DVD players it may not work correctly due to incompatibility wiht burned DVD’s. One thing that may help is if you have Nero is to use +R discs and change the book type to ROM as opposed to +R.

Depending on what version you have, go to the Recorder menu and select “Choose Recorder”. Then choose the desired drive, and click the “options” button. Then in the drop down select ROM for book type.

Let us know if this helps.

I use (and have used for the past 5+ years) the same tape you mention above as well as the 83 minute ones from Panny. I can’t remember the last time I had a dropout with them- so I have never had a reason to move to DVCAM tape. If it is working for you, don’t mess it up 🙂

If you have Spot’s book, I would highly recommend you take a look at the Vasst training series at http://www.vasst.com for Sony Vegas. They are very helpful and you can watch them while you follow along on your editor.

Can you point to a link that references a video you have tried this with and failed so one of us may test it?

Are you speaking of a difference mask? If so, take a look at this tutorial.

If not, please do explain some more.

Vegas 6 & 7 used to do this on my machine whenever I had anything firewire plugged in and on. If I switched the cam off or the hard drive off it would chug right along. Once it was up, then I would turn them back on. That would be the first thing I checked. If not that, perhaps try unplugging other devices that you have hooked up and see if you can locate one as the culprit.

Video is frame based. Audio is not. If you are not working in increments of frames, then you can have weird things happen to your cuts and the beginning and end of events and possibly elsewhere.

Gotcha. I thought you were talking about the new feature introduced in 7 or 8.

Turn off Quantitize to frames. Note though, this can mess up your video if you are using video.

Yeah, you can turn off the snapping feature in the toolbar. It is a button up there next to the auto ripple and the like. Just depress it.

DV will do that with scene detection, but instead of pushing “pause” on recording (which I didn’t know you could do- at least on any camera I own) just hit the record button again to stop recording. Vegas will pick up these breaks and display the events as separate.

A word of advice on the cheap cam. If you are filming at night you will want bigger CCDs and more of them to bring in more light. The less light you have, the grainier your footage will be. You might want to find a used DV camera or a Sony Hi8 digital camera that has a firewire port and go for that (some of the Hi8 digitals are actually better than some of the newer models that have a bunch of bells and whistles but don’t have adequate CCD’s or glass)
