What is on the timeline at those points? Generated media? If so are there any fx applied? We need a whole lot more information about what you are doing and what you are rendering to (format-wise) and what your project consists of.

What version of Vegas are you using? If the pro version(s) you should have no issue going into custom and adjusting the bitrate for the file to fit more on the disc or to increase quality. You will want to use mpeg-2 and allow Vegas to do the conversion for you, not DVD Architect.
(choose the template for DVDA that fits your project- either widescreen or standard), then render your audio separately as an ac3 file.You will need to download a bitrate calculator to get more exact settings for your DVD. You can find one here: Bitrate Calculator

The best project settings would be the one that most closely (or exactly) matches your original footage.
However, I would encourage you to just do a little test with 30 seconds or less footage output to both HD and SD.

Not screen grabs (wrong choice of words), but a capture of the preview window (Best/Full).

The only way I would know of is to do screen grabs and convert those to gif files. If they are animated, you can put them in a gif animator and have it to recreate the animation.
